With Intensions To Fly Wilbur and Orville across sand dunes raced With intentions to fly Brothers well grounded yet both of their heads Were way up in the sky No one could tell them that they’d never get off the ground There was no evidence, no sign of doubt could be found Chorus And now that they’ve flown Now that they have left behind this earthly home How, tell me how How can they come down and ever be the same Since they’ve broken the surly bonds Curtiss, Sikorsky, Fokker and Piper To name but a few Inventors designing and building their planes In which all of them flew No one could tell them that they’d never get off the ground There was no evidence, no sign of doubt could be found -Chorus- Now I am anxious to fly in this craft That my own hands have made My flight is possible thanks to the dreamers And the prices they paid No one can tell me that I’ll never get off the ground There is no evidence, no sign of doubt can be found Chorus And now that I’ve flown Now that I have left behind this earthly home How, tell me how How can I come down and ever be the same Since I’ve broken the surly bonds by: William Lambdin -2001-

Astronaut 04:07
Astronaut Looking in awe at the stars I find myself thinking that there may be faces looking back at me Standing here in the dark I just can't help thinking that I might go to those places to see what I might see Astronaut, astronaut I wonder if all of those stars might have planets and whether or not they have people that look at all like me Maybe they walk or fly airplanes or pilot spaceships built like a church steeple I'd like to ride so free Astronaut, astronaut Smooth acceleration and I'm off to visit Mars Great exhilaration now I'm out among the stars I could be wrong but I'd like to believe that the universe is filled with creatures with questions just like me No doubt they'd like to go visit their planets and see all their marvelous features forests, clouds and seas Astronaut, astronaut One day I plan to be part of a crew of astronauts off on a mission to see what lives out there But for the moment I'm happy to say that I'm glad to be in this position this universe to share Astronaut, astronaut by: William M. Floating Free Above the earth I'm floating free Without constraints, no gravity Above the earth I clearly see The ocean blue, the greenery There's no sideways, up, or down Roll, yaw, pitch and spin around One hundred and fifty five pounds As light as wind-blown coffee grounds Almost as free as solar wind I am a sunbeam I pretend Sunrise, sunset, race the moon Accelerated time will end to soon, end to soon Today the heavens opened wide To take this ship and me inside I wish that you could come with me And live the dream, and live the dream And live the dream, of floating free by: William M. Lambdin -1984-

Journey 05:38
Journey I'm off on a journey a journey that leads to the stars I'm leaving my friends, my home but I'm not going alone Traveling faster than sound I'm afraid to look down The thunder of rockets my eyes in their sockets pound I hold fast the dreams of mankind as we leave earth behind Clasping the arm rests I'm anxious to take up the quest I see the blue of the skye disappear from my eyes Day turns to night as the stars one by one shed their light Chorus There is no turning back now Nothing can get in our way There is no turning around We keep our sights on the stars I'm outward bound deafened by the sound of my heart Finally free like I dreamed I would be from the start Clearly the universe seeks us with beacons so bright Revealing its secrets it greats us with a burst of insight Chorus No time to consider we're caught in a sliver of light In one blinding instant we're one with the distant unknown To be or not to be that is the questions we ask Take joy in the knowledge that searching is part of the task Chorus by: William M. Lambdin -1986-

Children Of The Universe Children of the universe In the Milky Way Moonbeams by night Sunshine all day And so it has been From the time of our birth Here on this third planet The one we call earth (counterpoint) Take my hand and walk with me Help me gain the strength to be Show me all the things you see All the things that I can be All my possibilities Take my hand and walk with me Children of the universe In the Milky Way Talk with your elders Show them the way Help them to see Through eyes clear and bright There’s always some sunshine In the dark of the night Say, the children in them Never quite go away If they’d only listen They’d recall how to play Say, the children in them Still have something to say If they’d only listen If their hearts they’d obey by: William M. Lambdin -2018-

The Way I See It (From Here In Orbit) The way I see it From here in orbit The earth's a great place Bright spot in dark space From where I'm sitting There is no Peking There's no Russia No America I see the warm sand I see the rough land I see the great rivers flow I see the blue seas I see the green trees I see the white puffs of clouds I see the white puffs of clouds The way I see it There is no great split Between the East And the West From where I'm sitting There is no fighting No party slogans And nobody needs guns I see no borders I hear no orders I see the wide open plains I see no great wall I hear no role call I see no reason to fear I see no reason to fear The way I see it There are no limits To live and love And be free From where I'm sitting There is no quitting There's no place for hate And we control our fate I see the sun rise I see our star rise I see a future that's bright I see one nation A new creation I see us all hand in hand I see us all hand in hand All hand in hand All over this land I see us all hand in hand Hand in hand All over this land Hand in hand by: William M. Lambdin -1982-

about

I can remember watching in awe every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo launch as a kid and later as a young adult. There is no forgetting the first landing on the moon and that fuzzy video of the first humans to set foot (and leave footprints) on our moon. I have been mesmerized by all things space ever since. I even applied to the NASA Teacher In Space program-and, thankfully, wasn't given the opportunity to fly on the Challenger space shuttle. With several private space companies now poised to take paying passengers to the edge of space and beyond, we are truly in the age of human space exploration and my Journey can begin-at least inside my head and on this album. "Live long and prosper!"

about

William Morris (aka Lanny) Lambdin Amherst, Virginia

I grew up in a house that was always filled with music, from opera and hymns to musicals and the symphonies of the classical composers. As a consequence, my head has always been full of tunes and my song-writing has flowed from that wealth of music as well as the rock and blues I have gravitated to as an adult. My inner child stays close by, so my creations are mostly for kids - of all ages. ... more
